Alexia S6

Cylinder Lubricant for two-stroke low speed diesel engines

Shell Alexia S6 is a cylinder lubricant designed for use in two-stroke low speed diesel engines running under conditions of extreme oil stress. It provides additional protection in engines that require a very high performing product and is suitable for use with engines burning residual fuel with Sulphur levels >1.0%. It has been engineered to offer excellent performance for the new, more demanding engines, under challenging operational conditions such “slow” and “flexible” steaming regimes and high fuel Sulphur levels.

Shell Alexia S6 utilises Shell’s unique triple action technology to give advanced protection for engines experiencing cold corrosion, such as Tier II tuned engines and those retrofitted with turbocharger cut-out, where additional support from the lubricant is required. It has been especially formulated to deal with all aspects of Oil Stress.
Shell Alexia S6 has a BN of 100 and is an SAE50 oil cylinder lubricant.

Melina S30

Multifunctional Lubricant for low speed marine diesel engines

Shell Melina S is a high performance multifunctional low speed diesel engine lubricant based on a blend of highly refined high viscosity index mineral oils and a balanced selection of additives. It is designed to provide the highest levels of machinery protection in highly rated low speed marine engines, but being multifunctional, can also be used in many different items of marine equipment and used to rationalise the number of grades of lubricant carried on board ship. Please note that Shell Melina S is NOT recommended for trunk-piston engines and in these cases Shell Melina should be used.

Caprinus HPD 40

Railroad diesel engine oil

Shell Caprinus HPD 40 is a premium grade, heavy-duty, crankcase oil, intended mainly for railroad diesel engines of American origin, particularly those manufactured by General Electric and General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD).
Although it is fortified by additives providing alkalinity, dispersancy and resistance to oxidation, it does not contain zinc and therefore can be used in EMD engines fitted with silver piston-pin bearings.

Shell Caprinus HPD 40, which contains high viscosity index mineral oil, is designed specially for use in highly rated North American railroad engines subjected to the most severe operating conditions, especially where fuel sulphur is high (say around 1%) and where long oil drain intervals are required.

Shell On Board Plus Test Kit

The Shell Rapid Lubricants Onboard Plus test kit provides your ship’s engineers with a convenient, immediate, on-the-spot method of testing the condition of the lubricants on your vessel.

It helps to supplement the laboratory-based oil analysis service provided by Shell Rapid Lubricants Analysis (RLA ). The Shell RLA service should be used to obtain regular, accurate, long-term condition monitoring information about both oil and equipment.

The Shell Rapid Lubricants Onboard Plus test kit can rapidly test five important parameters of lubricating oil performance:

  • water in oil
  • insoluble material
  • total base number (TBN) or reserve alkalinity of engine oil viscosity
  • salt-water contamination.

With the test kit, oil can be tested and monitored at any time. Although the results are not as accurate as those obtained from a laboratory, they help to confirm if the oils in use are in good condition, which helps to maintain your equipment’s protection.
